He was born in Lucas, Ohio on May 16, 1924 to Wilson and Mary (Dickson) Berry. He was a 1942 graduate of Lucas High School. Duane was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Phillipines.
Duane was the last remaining active charter member of the Lucas Lions Club, which was founded in 1953. He had over 50 years of perfect meeting attendance, and he was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest award given for service by Lions Club International, in 1995. He was also a member of the Lucas Veterans Club, who donated the Lucas Post Office building to the Lucas community. Duane was a member of the Little Washington Congregational Church.
Duane was a farmer and he sold real estate for Bookwalter Realty, Pleasant Valley Realty, and Markham Realty. He served on the Lucas School Board for 20 years and was a Monroe Township Trustee for 16 years. He was a steadfast supporter and contributor to the Lucas community.
Duane is survived by his wife, Betty (Pugh) Berry, whom he married September 5, 1948; one daughter, Joan Berry Kalamas; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert & Lynda Berry; two grandchildren, Renee and Allen Berry; and a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Kalamas; he is also survived by one brother, Lyle (Ruth) Berry; one sister, Rosella (Glenn) Hollinger, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Berry and Mabel Berry; and two brothers-in-law, Max Maglott and Bob (Marnie) Pugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Berry; a son-in-law, David Kalamas; three brothers, Donovan, Walter, and Leo Berry; and one sister, Wilma Maglott.
