Ildie Mae Blixt, a resident of Chapman, Kan., passed away at Chapman Valley Mahnor in Chapman, Kan., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the age of 99.
Ildie was born April 9, 1913, at Cumro. Her parents were Hoasel and Inez Trew Wheeler. She attended Hall Grade School, and helped care for the family after their mother died.
She was married to Manfred Blixt March 30, 1937, in Broken Bow. They lived their lives in the Sandhills on Tallin Table, and in and around Arnold. They moved into Arnold in 1957, and she was preceded in death by her husband in June 1986.
Ildie was very active in the First Baptist Church, played in the Happy Rhythm Band, and was queen of the Arnold Festival Parade. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (having three sons who served in Vietnam), participated in the Senior Citizen Center, and lead a Bible study for many years. She was presented a certificate by the Governor of Nebraska for her work with the Nebraska Community Improvement Program.
She moved to Chapman, Kan., in 2005, to be near her family.
She is survived by seven children: Larry Blixt and wife Judy of Chapman, Kan., LeRoy Blixt and Tina of Chapman, Lyle Blixt and wife Janie of Chapman, Lennie Blixt and wife Carole of Chapman, Leon Blixt and wife Elaine of Belton, Mo., Lila Kitch and husband Sherman of Amarillo, Texas, and Lydia Blixt of Emporia, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hattie Johnson of Sutherland, and Iva Nichols of Valley Springs, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manfred; a granddaughter, Georgi Anne Blixt; a grandson, Kyle Blixt; four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services were Oct. 10, 2012, in the First Baptist Church in Arnold with Pastor Irving Jennings officiating. Burial was in the Arnold Cemeteray with Arnold Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
