In Sep, 1846, Ezra and Lydia Baldwin lost four children in less than a week from putrid dysentery. Adeline, sixteen, was away from home when the younger children were taken sick. She came home to help with the work. She contracted the disease and died first, September 23. The same day, George Eaton, five years old, died. The next day, Hannah, one year old, was taken. These three were buried in one grave. When the family returned from the burying of these, Sarah Ann, three years old, was dieing. The parents never recovered from this bereavement.

The Hathaway Cemetery is a mile or two north of the Baldwin Cemetery.
