RUTH GRANT ABERNATHY, 105, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010. Born November 9, 1904 to James L. and Lillian Pritchett Grant of Monroe County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Clive Abernathy and granddaughter Diane Wake. She was a loving Christian mother to Les Abernathy (Marguerite) of Jonesboro, AR, June Wake (Tom) of Muskogee, OK, and Barbara Caldwell (Bill) of Memphis, TN; grandmother to Skip Stewart-Abernathy (Judith), Karen Abernathy, Leigh Howard (Dave), Billy Caldwell (Gwen), Leanne Olds (Benny), Jimmy Caldwell (Kim), Michael Caldwell (Sandy), Denise Drywater (Mike) and Dana Falleur (Mike), also 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church. She was an active Member of the UMW and the Loyal Fellowship Sunday School Class. She served faithfully in the soup kitchen for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and family activities. She has left family and friends with many loving memories. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, at High Point Funeral Chapel, 3788 Summer Avenue. A service celebrating her life will be Tuesday, September 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Lukes United Methodist Church 480 S. Highland Memphis, TN, with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
