She was born Dec. 30, 1915 in Perry County, the daughter of the late August P. and Anna (Gotto) Versheldon. She was married Oct. 9, 1937 to Wallace Willard Young, who preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1994.
Mrs. Young was a kindergarten teacher at St. Boniface for 25 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, past regent of Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, SV Alumni Association, Perry County Historical Society, retired teachers association and a church lector.
Survivors include one son, David Scott Young of Perryville; one daughter, Mary Lynne Gotto of Perryville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Young, Kim Bishop, Chris Young, Stephanie Thieret, Amy DeRousse and Myra Gotto; 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, William Sr., John, Carroll and Bernard Versheldon and five sisters, Elizabeth, Mary Magdaline, Anna Edna and Mary Evelyn "Sister Augustine" Versheldon and Agnes Bauwens.
The funeral Mass was held Monday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with Rev. Rick Valleroy officiating. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery.
