Travis Jenkins passed away Wednesday 31 Mar 1010 in Ridgecrest, CA. He was born 22 Mar 1970 in Vernal, UT. He spent his childhood traveling between Utah, Idaho, and Arizona, before coming to California his freshman year in high school. Travis graduated from Burroughs High School in 1989 and entered the US Navy in October of that same year. He was excited and honored to serve his country and enlisted to become a hospital corpsman. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC with the Marines.
Travis served two tours of duty in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he was award a prestigious honor of "Sailor of the Float" for all of the Atlantic, while assigned to the USS Saginaw. This was for his professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties as platoon corpsman 1st Platoon, Company F, Battalion Landing Team 2/2. Travis performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner, and demonstrated great concern for the Marines he covered, and administered medical treatment to soldiers in Tunisia. He had a reputation for being an eager learner and enthusiastic teacher to his platoon.
Travis was honorably discharged from the Navy on 24 Jan 1994. After returning home, he continued to care for people while working for Dr. Podell as an assistant. He later transferred to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, where he worked as a phlebotomist for the next three years. Travis decided to go back to school to learn a new profession and earned the title of journeyman electrician. He finally found a home with IBEW 428 and graduated 18 May 2007.
Travis demonstrated a love for many things professionally and privately, but none more than his family. He loved being father and husband, passing his knowledge and interests on to his family and friends. Travis loved to go fishing, hunting, camping and riding quads in the desert. He loved the freedom of being outdoors and learning all he could about his surroundings. Travis had a thirst for knowledge, whether it was history, religion or astronomy. He was always eager for a good game of poker, cards or Monopoly. Travis enjoyed many interests and tried to excel in all his undertakings, and be best in all of them.
That included being a part of the IBEW brotherhood, in which he took great pride.
Travis is survived by his loving wife Melissa; daughter Grace; son Kyle; grandsons Hayden and Brayden. He was the son of Barry Jenkins and Bill and Mary Hand. He was the brother of Trudie Iskowitz, Barry Ray Jenkins and Justin Jenkins. Travis also had many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and grandmothers from California to Utah.
