Maria P Toews was born 15 December 1854 in Fischau, Molotschna, South Russia to Johann Cornelius Toews and Maria Plett.
14 Jun 1875 she arrived on the SS City of Berlin in New York.
Maria married CORNELIUS W DUERKSEN 15 November 1878 in Hillsboro, Kansas. Cornelius and Maria had 6 children:
Johann T Duerksen of Abbotsford, British Columbia;
Maria T Duerksen, Mrs Jacob Friesen of Oklahoma.
Jacob C Duerksen.
David T Duerksen, of San Joaquin, California
George T Duerksen, of San Joaquin, California.
Maria P Toews Duerksen married Jakob J Hildebrand 6 March 1892. They had 2 children:
Katharina Hildebrand, Mrs. Johann Elijah Peters of Dallas, Oregon.
Abram T Hildebrand.
Maria was the daughter of Johann and Maria Plett Toews. She married Cornelius Duerksen in 1876 in Gnadenau, Kansas. She was his third wife. After his death, she was unable to support her children so four of her children were raised by other Mennonite families in the community. In 1892, Maria married Jacob J. Hildebrand. After her marriage, all the children came back to live with their mother and her new husband. Soon after this, the family moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, becoming members of the Korn Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Church in 1910. At some point, the family moved to Reedley, California, where Maria died in 1918.*
