Mrs. Mary Mingee, 75 died suddenly at her home in Kansas City on Nov. 19, 1968, She had nt been ill so her death was a shock to her family and friends.
Mary Virginia Wright was born, November 16, 1893 at Weston to the late Martha Angeline Morgan and Perry Wright. She and her only sister were orphaned at an early age and were reared by their grandmother, Mrs. Mary V. Stephens. She attended school in the area and on June 12, 1911 was married to John T. Mingee. Mr. Mingee was a tobacco grower and gardner and preceded her in death July 19, 1959.
They worked together and maintained a home for their family of seven children. One daughter, Lulu Belle died in Nov. 1959.
Other survivors are: Jess Willard Mingee, Elwood, Ind. John D. Mingee, DeKalb, Mo. James Taylor Mingee, Dearborn, Mo. ; Mrs. Lena Mae Lewis, Overland Park, Ks., Mrs. Mary Kathern Tucker of Kansas City and Mrs. Martha Angeline Taulbee of Weston, Mo. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mingee was a member of the Weston Christian Church being one of the first to be baptized in the new church when it was built in 1906. Mrs. Mingee was a fine hand with a needle, especially with embroidery and quilting. Since her retirement from Goodwill Industries where she worked for some 15 years after moving to Kansas City in 1945, she just lived and loved to quilt for others. Now and then a grandchild would receive a beautiful quilt.
