The eldest son of Major Thomas Snowden, Montpelier, with his two wives, Eliza and Louisa Warfield. Also is his son Thomas.

He married Elizabeth "Eliza" Warfield on 02 Feb 1798 in Anne Arundel, Maryland (Maryland Marriages, 1666-1970) and his second wife, Louisa Victoria Warfield on May 16, 1818 in Prince George's County, Maryland (Maryland Marriages, 1666-1970). They had the following children:

Anna Louisa Snowden who was born in 1799 and died in 1880

Thomas Snowden who was born in 1802 and died in 1850

Caroline Eliza Snowden who was born in 1808 and died in 1899

Richard Nicholas Snowden who was born in 1815 and died in 1850
