GREENBUSH - Reginald "Bampy" R. Curtis, 69, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, went to be with the Lord Sept. 2, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 23, 1940, in Bangor, the son of Charlie and Ruby M. (Scott) Payne. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan in the 1960s. When he returned to Maine he was an outstanding salesman and interior decorator for many years at Friedman Furniture, Salibas and New Central Furniture. Reggie worked for various car dealers in the area before moving to Florida and then to North Carolina, where he enjoyed working for Olan Mills as a photographer, specializing in church portfolios. Reggie loved children and they adored him. He entertained many kids as a professional magician. He also took a great deal of pride as a Sunday school teacher. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Dean Curtis; and his sister, Glenna (Curtis) Quimby. He is survived by his children, Susan Wolf, Reginald Curtis II, James Curtis and his wife, Gwen, and Michelle Bailey and her husband, Bill, all of Greenbush; grandchildren, Erica Sturrock, Donald Curtis, Amber Gardner, Zachary Gardner and Joshua Curtis; and sisters, Betty Trimm and her husband, Steve, and Barbara Brown. When he was a young man, there was a fatal boating accident with his mother-in-law and father-in-law. At this time Reggie invited all of his wife Harriet's younger siblings, ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old, to live with his family. This in return resulted in much love and some of his happiest memories. He will be greatly missed by Pam Carmichael and her husband, Marty, Warren Brasslett, Jean McKay and her husband, Richard, Terry Smith and his wife, Diane, Monte Smith, Colin Smith and his wife, Gloria, and Tammy Brasslett. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of all his nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until the time of service 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the home of his niece, Carrie and Ryan Madden, 1163 Cardville Road, Greenbush. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
