Columbia - Rose Bozard entered into the presence of Jesus on Sunday, November 29, 2009. She was 80 years young, born March 5, 1929, in Lodge, SC. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Alvin D. Bozard; her daughter, Donna Cox (William, son-in-love); two precious granddaughters, Celeste and Brittany Cox, all of Columbia; four sisters, May Reid, Clarice Davis and Edith Caldwell from Darlington, and Sue Higgins of Charlotte, and one brother, Edwin Caldwell of New Ellenton. Her brothers, John Caldwell, Sr., Mendel Caldwell, Sr., Alvin Caldwell, Sr. and Julian Caldwell predeceased her. A lifetime educator, Rose taught at many schools, including Valley High and Durrett High in Louisville, KY, Parker High in Greenville, University High, Columbia High and Irmo High. During her spare time, she enjoyed tutoring other students in math and knitting, and crocheting caps for the seaman's ministry in Charleston. She and Alvin were active members of the Palmetto Quilters and Mid-Carolina Daylily Society. Rose taught Sunday School and served as church pianist and organist at several churches. She always supported her husband in his ministry and she participated in the filming of the "Experiencing God" video by Henry Blackaby. Rose was known affectionately for baking her "world famous" cinnamon rolls. She also volunteered with families of Alzheimer patients. The family wishes to thank the third floor ICU staff at Lexington Medical Center for their compassionate care of Rose in her final moments. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bethea Baptist Retirement Community, 157 Home Avenue, Darlington, SC 29532. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church with entombment in Bush River Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will include Dennis Adams, Alvin Caldwell, Jr., Gary Caldwell, Mendel Caldwell, Jr., Tom Higgins and Charles "Chuck" Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will include the Bethel Sunday School Class from Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. © The State, Columbia, SC, 1 Dec 2009
