James M. Greene
James M. Greene, 57, a World War II Army Veteran, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at his residence, RR Box 110, Route 7. He had been employed for 24 years at Ben Mont as a stock supervisor in the shipping department.
The son of Alvah and Emily (Mattison) Greene, he was born in Glastenbury Aug 2, 1914. Mr. Greene's mother died at an early age and Mr. Greene had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Volney Mitchell of North Bennington. His education was received in North Bennington schools and he was a graduate of North Bennington High School.
From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army, attached to the Medical Detachment, 247th Eng Combat Bn in the European theater of operations.
He married the former Helen Anbuchon on April 15, 1950 in North Bennington.
Mr. Greene was a member of Tucker Lodge F&AM of North Bennington. He was an ardent sportsman and specially enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Miss Sandra J. Greene of Bennington; one stepson, Gary Dickinson of New Rochelle, N.Y.; one grandson; one stepbrother, Walter A. Greene of Bennington; three stepsisters, Mrs. Duncan (Ann) Moffitt of Proctorsville; Mrs. Charles (Nancy) Havis of Bainbridge, Pa., and Mrs. Edna Bruso of Shaftsbury; aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. A.J. MacDonald of the Shaftsbury First United Methodist Church officiating.
Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. All members of Tucker Lodge F&AM will meet at the funeral home tonight at 7:30 to conduct their service for brother Greene.
Interment will take place at a later date in the South Shaftsbury Cemetery.
If friends desire, contributions in his memory may be mad to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the funeral home office.
