Private Yelvington Is Killed in Action
Pvt. Edmund Dyke Yelvington, 27, with the 79th Infantry in France was killed in action on July 23, his parents Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Yelvington, of 2406 East High, were notified by the War department last night. Private Yelvington, who enlisted in the Army in August, 1940, had served over three years in Alaska. A graduate of Senior High school, he was a boilermaker for the Frisco before entering the service. He was engaged to Miss Gladys Hill of 957 West Locust. The body of Pvt. Edmund C. (Dyke) Yelvington, 26, who was killed July 23, 1944, in the Battle of St. Lo, France, arrived in Marshfield early today for funeral services Friday afternoon at 1:30 at Timber Ridge church north of Marshfield. The Rev. N. G. Bristow will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery there under direction of Rainey of Marshfield. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Yelvington of Springfield; a brother, John of the home, and three sisters, Mrs. Grace McNally of Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. Effie Gerhart of Marshfield and Miss Dorraine Yelvington of the home.
