Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) M. Bitzan was born April 14, 1895 in Millerville, Minnesota, the daughter of Nicholas and Caroline (Dobmeyer) Hockert. On November 7, 1922 Barbara and Joseph Bitzan were united in marriage at Millerville. The Bitzans lived and farmed in Millerville Township their entire married life. Mrs. Bitzan was a member of the Christian Mothers Society for over fifty years.
Barbara died at the Bethany Home in Alexandria Friday, June 25, 1982 where she has been a resident for the past three years. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; one daughter, Mrs. Philip (Odillia) Roers of Garfield; four sons, Arnold, Nick, Cletus and Clement all of Millerville; twenty four grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Till) Reynolds of St. Louis Park; four brothers, Nick of Alexandria, Ferd and Math both of Millerville and George Hockert of Alexandria. Barbara was preceded in death by one grandson, Ronnie Roers, two sisters, Mrs. Anne Feltl and a sister who died in childhood and four brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial was held June 28, 1982, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Joseph Percic, Msgr. Peter Lorsung, Father Joseph Vogrin and Father James Thoennes officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, George, Kenneth, Paul, Dennis Bitzan and Gregory and Kevin Roers. Interment was at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Millerville, Minnesota. Services were directed by the Alexandria Funeral Home.
