Gladys E. Merritrt daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin C. Merritt was born in Collison Kansas June 18, 1911 and passed peacefully away July 31, 1912 aged 13 months 13 days of Cholera. All that skilled hands and tender care could do was done but without avail. The tender shepherd needed one more little sunbeam and knew none would shine brighter than our little Gladys. The body was brought to Maquoketa accompanied by sorrowing parents. They were met at the depot by relativies and friends who bore the little form to a beautiful resting spot in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
