Mathias Joseph Wright, 88-year-old resident of Lake County, died at his home in Lakeport, Monday afternoon, November 11, at 2 p.m. The desceased had undergone an operarion in August of this year and had been confined to his bed until his death.
Mathias Wright was born March 3, 1858, at St. Joseph, Missouri. He came to California when a youth of 16 and settled at Red Bluff.
On April 26, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Kate E. Url of Red Bluff. Eight children were born to this union, all living. In 1908 he moved his family to Lake County.
Mr. Wright is survived by his widow, Kate; eight children, Mrs. Ernest Vanina of Berkeley; Mrs. Joe Leahy of Lower Lake; Mrs. Hulda Burger, Mrs. Clyde Burriss and Mrs. Arthur Beattie and Marion Wright of Lakeport; Mrs. Ernest Holst of Gustine; Lincoln Wright of Kelseyville; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The deceased had enjoyed good health and was always interested in community affairs, possessing a keen mind. He was a devoted husband and father, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning, November 13, at 11 a.m. from the Jones Mortuary. George Turnbull reading and interment at Hartley Cemetery. The pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased.
The deep and sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family at the great loss of their beloved husband and father.
