Enlisted in Co. D, 56th N.C. Reg. on July 30, 1863. Wounded in the battle of Plymouth on Apr 21, 1864, and died two days later. One of a number of battle dead that were buried in the churchyard. The graves were marked with wooden crosses. When they decayed the graves were left unmarked.
