Bright Young Man Taken at Twenty Six
The death angel entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Miller, on November 9, 1914, and claimed their son Jake, for its victim. He was twenty-six years, one month and seven days old. He joined the Walnut Grove Baptist Church, under a series of meetings held by Rev. James Willet about ten years ago, and has lived a devout Christian every since. He had been a suffer of tuberculosis for several months and he bore his suffering with a fortitude that none could have borne but a true Christian. Everything was done that loving hands could do, but to no avail. God called and Jake had to obey the summons. He leaves a father, a mother, five brothers and three sisters. His brothers are Abe Miller of Missouri, Dan Miller of California, Roll, Frank and Asia Miller of this county. His sisters, Mrs. Jonas Basham, Mrs. Will Basham and Miss Kitty Miller all of this county. On November 11 his remains were followed to Walnut Grove Cemetery by a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. Funeral services conducted by the pastor, Rev. Hutchinson. Pall bearers were: J.H. Avitt, Henry Eadan, Ben Harrison, Charlie Avitt, Camilious Cart and Will Key.
No more on earth will we see our Loved one's gentle smile, nor hear his voice. His labors here were not finished, his work was undone. He was cut down in the prime of life. But we should not mourn as those without hope. We should look forward to the bright resurrection morning, when friends will again meet friend, when father and mother and son, brothers and sisters will all be united, and sad partings will indeed be no more.
Dearest Jake, thou has left us,
Left us for the other shore,
But we soon must follow after
For thou hast only gone before.
How we watched around the bedside
Faithful watchers day and night,
Lest while in the hour of absence,
Thy soul from hence would take it flight.
Now the room looks lone and vacant
Jake's chair is empty now,
No home is now so sad and lonely
Sadness wreaths our aching brow.
