Private, Company L, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action during the Battle of the Little Big Horn, in which General George A. Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry were wiped out (also called the Custer Massacre).

Son of John and Sarah M. Pardee. Enlisted 29 August 1873 in US Marine Corps in Brooklyn Navy Yard, NY. Deserted 28 Sept 1873. Enlisted in US Army on 29 Sept 1873 under the alias of "John Burke" and assigned to 7th Cavalry. Worked as Blacksmith. He had brown eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, was 5' 9" tall, and never married. Killed with Custer's column at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, on the side of Last Stand Hill. Listed as "John Burke" on the battle monument. Originally buried where they fell, in July 1877 the bodies were reinterred in a mass grave with the other enlisted soldiers at the Battlefield Monument on top of Last Stand Hill.
