(special thanks to J.A.N. for birth info and the following info) Joel died in April or August 1862 in the service of the CSA. Co F, 38 Tennessee Infantry.

He is the son of Shepherd Etheridge (1790-1863) and Matilda Evans (1807-1888). He is the brother of Lt Robert C., Charles, William S., Hiram, and George W. and married Emily M. Dicey Bowen.

Through collaboration and much effort, we have discoved that Joel was married to two Emilys. The first wife was Emily Dicy Bowen and they married in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on 17 Aug 1852 and had a daughter names Mary Jane Etheridge (1853-1922). Shortly thereafter, Emily Dicy Bowen passed away and Joel married Emily Rice on 4 Nov 1858 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. They had two children; William B 1860-1880 and John R 1861-1934. After Joel died, Emily Rice Etheridge married David Myers. I hope this will help further researchers.
