Jean Porter

Mrs. Jean McCraw Porter, 91, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 21, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lexington, MS, with Rev. Matthew Rowe and Rev. Robert Weatherington officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Southern Funeral Home of Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Porter was born May 25, 1919, in Leland, MS, the daughter of Sloane Ryals and John McCraw. She was a graduate of Belhaven College, and taught public school music and private music lessons for many years in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doty Porter; a sister, Margaret Mitchell; and a brother, John McCraw, Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Alfred (Rhonda) Porter of Louisville, and John Doty (Gale) Porter of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Elizabeth King of Alamo, TX; five grandchildren, Sally, Mary Claire, and Olivia Porter, Sloane (Josh) Fair, and Doty (Mary Gregory) Porter; and one great grandson, John Benz Porter.
