Clyde A. Elwell
Clyde Ansel Elwell, 68, died this morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northampton, Mass., where he had been a patient for the last six weeks. He was born in South Shaftsbury Oct 23, 1889, son of the late Silas and Martha Corey Elwell.
He had always made his home in South Shaftsbury, received his education there and had been employed at the Eagle Square Mfg. Co. for many years.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Ruth) Hawkins of Manchester and a grandson, John Hawkins; two brothers, Corwin of Bennington and John of Arlington; three sisters, Mrs. Lila Bronson of South Shaftsbury, Mrs. Miner Clark (Alice), East Arlington and Mrs. Marshall (Josephine) of Bennington.
Mr Elwell entered the service during World War I in 1917 at Camp Devens and served with the 302nd Field Artillery in France. One of his hobbies was music, of which he was extremely fond and he had played the violin exceptionally well.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in South Shaftsbury.
Funeral services are pending at Walbridge Funeral Home.
