THE BALLAD OF GENE ALLEN DUNN
I have a sad story to tell you.
of a boy who was handsome and strong.
His spirit was called by his master
for Gene Allen Dunn now is gone.
He left home to seek his employment.
With his friend and dear brother Jack
way out in Baxter Spring, Kansas
Lost his life on the railroad tracks.
No warning sound from the whistle.
No thought that death was so nigh.
The truck wheels rolled up on the crossing.
In the path of the speeding Fire Fly.
His friends and relations they loved him.
He was always so happy and gay.
His life was a pathway of sunshine.
But God took Gene Allen away.
His sister sat down by the casket.
Her tears, they fell like the rain.
I'll stay by his side now she whispered.
For I'll never see him again.
