"Former O'Connor Pastor Dies"
O'CONNOR, Neb. - The Rev. Michael McDaid, 65, former pastor of The Church of the Visitation here, died early Wednesday morning in North Platte. Father McDaid retired on Aug. 16, 1950, because of ill health and had since made his home in St. Mary's Hospital at North Platte. Death was due to a stroke. Funeral services will be conducted here Saturday morning in The Church of the Visitation. The office of the dead will be recited at 10 o'clock and the Most Rev. John Paschang, bishop of Grand Island, will be the celebrant of a pontifical requiem mass at 10:30. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Father McDaid was born in Londonderry, Ireland, on July 11, 1887. He served in the British navy for a period and studied at Londonderry before coming to America where he finished his studies at St. John's Seminary in Little Rock, Ark. He was ordained to the priesthood on Oct. 28, 1925, by the Most Rev. James Duffy, then bishop of Grand Island. He was later assigned to the Mexican missions of western Nebraska. On May 30, 1933, he was named pastor of St. Josephs Church at Chappel. He was appointed to the O'Connor post on March 1, 1935. He had previously been appointed to the board of examiners for junior clergy on Dec. 21, 1933.
