Eugene "Cotton" Correll, 72, Horseshoe Drive, passed on Wednesday, December 6, at his residence. He was born October 13, 1934 in Lee County, son of the late Escar Thomas and Mary Pauline Little Correll. Cotton was a 1952 graduate of Millersburg Military Institute and a 1956 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He played football at Eastern and later received his Masters and Rank I from Eastern. Cotton taught and coached at Bourbon County High School and started the football program at Bourbon County in 1963. He also coached football at MMI and was the principal at Bourbon County Middle School, retiring in 1990. Cotton was an active member of First Baptist Church in Paris where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Mason, a Captain in the military, and a Company Commander in the Military Reserves. Cotton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Bentley Correll; two daughters, Cathy (Randy) Gaebler, Lisa (Mark) Walls; five very special grandchildren, Jake Gaebler, Matt Walls, Josh Walls, Nikki Gaebler, Carly Walls, Georgetown; a sister, Betty (Ray) Vencill, Elizabethtown; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Correll, Middletown, OH; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Cay Correll and a brother, Paul Correll. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Reed officiating and eulogies by Pat Durbin, Perry Day, and Dave Randolph. Casket bearers will be Tom Berry, Hade Durbin, Dickie Harris, Price Huston, Carlos Pennington, Phillip Pridemore, and Ray Vencill. Honorary bearers will be Don Hamm, Bill Birdwell, Bobby Barlow, and the John Marler Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or First Baptist Church.
