MERKEL -- Lena Bright McWilliams, 88, died Friday, March 12, 2004, in a local nursing center. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Trent Church of Christ with Larry Gill officiating. Burial will be in the Trent Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Lena was born August 7, 1915 in Trent to Jackson and Zillah Gentry Bright. She married Arch McWilliams on May 4, 1935 in Trent. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Trent Church of Christ. Lena worked for the Trent ISD in the school cafeteria for 21 years. She was a hairdresser and owned and operated the Trent Beauty Shop for 20 years. She was a member of the Trent Community Club and received the John Hamner Award for outstanding supporter of the Trent School in 1998.
Survivors include her son, Jerry McWilliams and wife, Kay of Andrews; two daughters, Tellie Upp and husband, Frank of Buffalo Gap, Kaye Moore of El Paso; a sister-in-law, Anna Zell Bright of Trent; grandchildren, Jay and Gina McWilliams, Kim and Wesley Harris, Chris and Dana McWiliams, Shellie and Craig Smyser, Jeff and Randa Upp, Angie and Lance Cowart, Todd and Ella Moore, Josh Moore and fifteen great-grandchildren.
