Peggy Anne (Ellis) Wharton, 78, of Marshall, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at First Christian Church in Marshall, with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in LaMonte Cemetery in LaMonte. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Salt Fork YMCA in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.

Born April 9, 1931, in Sedalia, she was the daughter of the late George Ellis and Mary Williams Ellis. On June 5, 1949, she married Lyman (Cork) Wharton, who preceded her in death July 5, 1998. She had worked at Montgomery Ward and Dolly's Fabrics, and was a homemaker. Peg and Cork retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1986 where they enjoyed fishing and living in the beautiful Ozark scenery for 12 years. She moved back to Marshall upon Cork's death in 1999, where she was a member of the Red Hat Society; played in several bridge clubs; volunteered at Fitzgibbon Hospital; and had lifelong friendships with her social club, the P.N.'s, which began at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia. She was a member of First Christian Church in Marshall.

Survivors include two daughters, Melody Igo and husband, Sam, of Marshall and Melissa Young and husband, Wayne, of St. Charles; four grandchildren, David Igo and wife, Angela, and Christopher Igo and wife, Katie, all of Napton, Meghan Arana and husband, Ben, of Overland, and Jacob Young of St. Charles; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Ashlyn, Sophia and Hayden; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Rogers.
