James Taylor applied for revolutionary pension while living in Blount County, Tenn. He enlisted in the 3rd North Carolina, serving as a substitute for Joseph Myers in Capt. Martin's company. He enlisted again and served under Capt. Gibson Woolridge. He was captured by British forces but escaped. He served in a battle near Shallow Ford. When the officers of the company were missing after an engagement he was elected Captain. He volunteered again in 1781 under Capt. Daniel Wright and was elected Ensign. He died in Blount County in 1841.
