Udall Man Dies Friday

Robert W. Atkinson, 36, a lifetime resident of Udall, died in a Winfield hospital Friday. He was born at Udall, Nov. 28, 1919, the son of Hugh and Sylvia Penrose Atkinson. He was graduated from Udall high school in 1939 and was married to Nina A. Clark, Aug. 14, 1939 at Udall. He served in the World War II from Aug. 28, 1944 to April 1, 1946.

He operated a grocery store at Udall the last eight years. On May 25, 1955 when the home and store was destroyed ty a tornado, his wife and two sons lost their lives and he was severely injured. With his father, he rebuilt the store and continued to operate the business until forced to retire several weeks ago on account of illness. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge.

Survivors include his parents, now residents of Winfield: a son, Robert Jr., Udall; a brother, Richard Atkinson, Winfield, and a sister, Mrs. Doris Rutter, Udall. Services at Winfield First Methodist church. Burial will be in the Udall cemetery. Morris funeral home, Winfield, is in charge.
