[History of Maries Co shows Thomas Murry as father] Died July 11, 1924 in Johnson Township, Maries Co, MO from Ulceration of Stomach with Chronic Nephritis. Lilly Wills, Belle, MO, informant on DC. Burial in High Gate [Baptist] Cemetery on July 13, 1924. (brother to Margaret Louisa Murry Neeper)***************************************
From History of Maries Co, Mo by Everett M. King, page 524: Permelia Harrison, who was born March 4, 1842, married Lafayette Murry, who came here as a child in 1838. His father, Thomas Murry, was a boatbuilder and worked at his trade over a wide territory; his mother was a Noblett. The family evidently lived in Tennessee. When it was decided they should move to their relatives here a date in the future was set when the father would meet his wife and children in St. Louis and accompany them to their new home. The wife and children were there on time, but no tidings were ever received of the father. While waiting for his appearance, his wife, too, sickened and died, leaving her two children among strangers.

Relatives brought them here where they grew to man and womanhood and lived the remainder of their lives. In his youth and early manhood 'Lafe' Murry was one of the old-time oxteam freighters from this county to St. Louis, taking from two to three weeks to make the round trip. He later farmed on the Bourbeuse and operated power machinery of all kinds, dying at Vichy July 11, 1924. Mrs. Murry survived her husband until January 8, 1936. Lafayette and Permelia Murry were the parents of three children living to maturity, of whom two, William S. of St. James, and Lida, wife of A. J. Smith of Mount Vernon, Texas, survive. The third child, Lillie, wife of W. Z. Wills of Belle, who was born April 17, 1872, died at Belle April 26, 1936, also leaving three children by a prior marriage: Mrs. Myrtle Carter and Mrs. N. T. dark, both of Kansas City, Missouri, and William Gibbons of Fort Peck, Montana.

From History of Cole, Moniteau, Morgan, Benton, Miller, Maries and Osage Counties, Missouri, 1889: LaFayette Murry is a farmer of Johnson Township, Maries Co., Mo., and was born in Monroe County, Tenn., in 1834. His parents were Thomas and Nancy (Noblett) Murry; the former, who was of Irish parentage, was a shoemaker by trade, and followed flatboating to New Orleans.

In 1839 he made a trip to New Orleans, and was to meet his family (who were to come to Missouri with Mrs. Murray’s father, William Noblett) at St. Louis. The family afterward concluded to cross the river at Cape Girardeau, and came to what is now Maries County. Not finding his family at St. Louis, Mr. Murry wrote back to his friends in Tennessee to learn their whereabouts, but before he received sufficient information, as was learned some years after, he is supposed to have met his death on the American Bottoms, in Illinois. The mother died about 1843. La Fayette and one sister were the only children, of whom the former was the elder. He received a limited common-school education, and, upon the death of his mother, was bound to Andrew Moreland, an uncle, with whom he lived until twenty-one. He was then employed in hauling iron from the Meramec Iron Works for several years.

In 1858 he married Permelia, daughter of William and Nancy Harrison, early settlers of Maries County, Mo., where they still live. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Murry, three of whom are living. Since his marriage, Mr. Murry has resided in Johnson Township with the exception of one year spent in Jefferson Township. He owns 120 acres of land, nearly all of which is under cultivation, and for the past fifteen years he has also been engaged in the saw-mill and thrashing business. During the late war he served over four months in Company I, Thirty-second Missouri Infantry, and was discharged in December 1862, on account of disability. He is a Democrat in politics, and is a member of St. James Post, G. A. R. Mrs. Murry has been a member of the-Baptist Church for many years; she is a native of Maries County.
