Dorothy was born in Hutchins, Texas, to the late David L. and L. Pauline Thompson. They relocated to the farming community of Lancaster around 1925. She was educated in Lancaster schools, graduating from Lancaster High School in 1939. She married Lester Edwin Barber on Dec. 23, 1939. They lived in Dallas for several years before moving to the suburb of Grand Prarie. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prarie. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and family person. She also worked part-time at Grand Prarie High School and at Texas Instruments in Richardson. She and Edwin moved to Waco in July 1962 and were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Bellmead. She also worked for Waco Radiological Clinic for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edwin Barber; granddaughter, Jayna Richie, of Sabattus, Maine; grandson, Todd Edwin Barber, of Houston; and brothers, David Thompson Jr., John Edward Thompson, of Anchorage, Alaska, and James Lee Thompson, of Dallas.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula JaNae Richter and husband, Roland, of Woodway; son, David Edwin Barber and wife, Nancy, of Houston; grandchildren, Mischa Brinkmeyer and husband, Tim, of Katy, Damon E. Barber and wife, Myrna, also of Katy, Adrienne Perrin-Walker and Brandon, of Humble, Andrea Perrin-Ose and husband, Ryan, of Seattle, Wash., Lauren Perrin-Smith and husband, Rocky, of Mabank, and grandson, Keith Preston Barber, of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Rodney Ritchie Jr. and Constance Brooke Richie, of Maine, Elliott Michael Walker, of Humble, and Gracie and Lilly Barber, of Katy; brother, Harold Leon Thompson and wife, Mary, of Mertens; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends over the years.
