ELLA ZANE CALHOON
RETIRED BOARD OF EDUCATION SECRETARY WAS 101
Ella Zane Calhoon, 101, 1401 Robertson Avenue, died at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at McCune-Brooks Hospital where she had been a patient since October 10.
Born June 26, 1892, at Pleasant Plains, Illinois to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zane, she came to Carthage as a child with her parents. She was a 1910 graduate of Carthage High School and attended Franks Business College. She was a bookkeeper at the Bank of Carthage and in January 1933 accepted the post of secretary of the Carthage Board of Education. She retired in August 1960.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter,
Helen Rogers, Carthage Route 4
three grandchildren;
Harry O. Rogers II and
Charles Rogers, both of Carthage and
Ann Balfour, Green Bay, Wisconsin
Two great-grandsons, Sam Rogers and Chris Rogers, both of Carthage
a niece, Betty Robertson, Springfield
A brother, James I. Zane died August 18, 1978.
