Charlotte Hoblitzell Muse, 83, of Vienna, W.Va., died Saturday, March 26, 2005, after a sudden illness at the Charleston, W.Va., residence of her son.

Mrs. Muse was born in Sacramento, Calif., a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Lula Thompson Reed. She graduated from Sacramento Junior College, and served in the U.S. Navy as a wave in Port Hueneme, Calif., where she met her first husband, the late United States Senator John D. Hoblitzell Jr.

Following World War II, she returned, with her family, to Parkersburg, W.Va., where she lived from 1945 until 1957. The Hoblitzell family lived in Ravenswood, W.Va., Bluefield, W.Va., and Clarksburg, W.Va., prior to returning to Parkersburg, W.Va., in 1962, upon the death of her first husband.

She was a realtor with Parkersburg Realty Company for twenty-one years. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served two terms as a member of the Vestry, was past president of the Episcopal Church Women, a member of St. Anne's Guild, a former Sunday school teacher, and served as a member of the Altar Guild. She was a former member of the Junior League of Parkersburg. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in the WV Federation of Republican Women in the 1950's.

She is survived by her husband, Richard S. Muse; daughter, Patricia C. Hoblitzell and husband, Lloyd McCauley, of Kent, Wash.; daughter, Julie H. Matheny and husband, Mike Matheny, of Vienna, W.Va.; son, John R. Hoblitzell and wife, Sara Z. Hoblitzell, of Charleston; granddaughters, Marni Kepple and husband, Dave, Lesli Billings and husband, Darren, and Julie Cook; grandsons, Tim Matheny and wife, Monica, Tyler Cook, Jack Hoblitzell and wife, Emily, Bill Hoblitzell and Mark Hoblitzell; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Tommy Lou Renney of San Carlos, Calif.; brother, Thomas F. Reed Jr. of Fair Oaks, Calif.; two nieces; two nephews; and the children of Richard Muse, Marsha Muse Myers, Bill Muse, and Ed Muse.

Mrs. Muse was preceded in death by her first husband, John D. Hoblitzell Jr.; sister, Corrine Sargent of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Lucy F. Hoblitzell of Rockville, Md.; and grandson, Jay F. Cook, Jr. of Enumclaw, Wash.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Larry D. Jackson and the Rev. Jack D. Neilson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, W.Va., and one hour after services Wednesday, March 30, at the Trinity Parrish Hall.
