James H. Koons, 94, Martinsville, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home. Born September 14, 1915, he was the son of Clarence Bert Koons and Ida Belle Kirk Koons. He married M. Eileen Cunningham on December 24, 1939.
Mr. Koons graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1934. He retired from Allison's Division of General Motors.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville where he was elder emeritus and was the Sunday School Treasurer for 53 years. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge #74 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Morgan County Scottish Rite.
He enjoyed working in his woodshop, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, COL (R) J. Stephen (Andrea) Koons of Lebanon, TN and Thomas F. (Linda) Koons of Martinsville, IN; one daughter, Janice Dyke of Martinsville, IN; two granddaughters, Maria Anne (Glenn) Koons Campbell of Unionville, TN and Amanda Dyke (Ryan) O'Neal of Spencer, IN; two grandsons, Wesley (Julie) Koons of Martinsville, IN and Patrick (Kristina) Koons of Mooresville, IN; two great grandsons, Garrett O'Neal and Christian Koons; four great granddaughters, Whitley O'Neal, and Reagan, Leah and Abigail Koons; and two step great granddaughters, Maria and Rachel Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Eileen Koons; brothers, Marlin and Kenneth Koons; and sisters, Pauline Harrell, Maxine Hawkins and Katherine Koons.
Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Costin Funeral Chapel and on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the First Christian Church.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the First Christian Church with Dr. Mark Poindexter officiating.
Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
