While the family was young, they moved to Neuburg, a very small village about 30 miles south of Dettingen and just a few miles from Johannes' parents' inn, where Johannes was born. The family probably visited the grandparents frequently since Neuburg was in the Catholic area and they were Protestant. Their church was in Mundigen.
After Johannes' death, Maria immigrated first to Chicago to be with her daughter, Maria Schwenk Baumeister and husband. She then spent time with August and Louise Schwenk in Kirksville, Missouri. Shepassed away while living with her son John, who owned a farm near Bloomington, Missouri.
