W.N. Boyles, Alderman, Dies


William N. Boyles, alderman of the Thirteenth ward, known as "Squire Boyles," died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at his home, 708 Second street, Juniata, after a brief illness.

He was a son of Henry A. and Susan (Norris) Boyles and was born in Altoona November 8, 1868. He spent his entire life in Altoona and Juniata except for a few years w hen he resided in Akron, O., returning to Juniata in 1924.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma (Koofer) Boyles, with whom he was united in marriage on September 26, 1900; one brother, John C. Boyles, and three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Goodman, Mrs. C.C. Bowersox and Mrs. Frank Arble, all of Juniata.

Mr. Boyles was a member of the Trinity Luther church and of Bellview lodge of Odd Fellows in Juniata and of the Eagles in Altoona. He was the third burgess of Juniata borough and served as postmaster there from 1903 to 1911.

Mr. Boyles was appointed to the office of justice of the peace in the borough in 1926, filling that office at the time of the annexation of the borough to the city of Altoona in January, 1929. In 1933 he was elected alderman of the Thirteenth ward for a full six-year term and was subsequently reelected and was serving in his second term at death.

Friends will be received at the Mauk and Yates funeral home in Juniata after 6 o'clock this evening.
