J. William Chase, 78, prominent in banking and business circles of Sun Prairie for a score of years, died Wednesday in a Davenport, IA, sanitarium after a long illness. Born in Bristol township, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses Chase, pioneer Wisconsin settlers, Mr. Chase came to Sun Prairie 20 years ago to enter banking and the lumber business. Surviving him are his widow; four sons, Fred, Charles, Phillip, and George; five daughters, Mrs. Edith Howe, Mrs. Sarah Sweet, Miss Kate Chase, all of Sun Prairie, and Mrs. Beatrice Batz of Madison and Mrs. Emma Robinson of Nebraska; two brothers, Riley of Washington and Frank of Florida; one sister, Ada Madden of Washington, 33 grandchildren, and several great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning with the Rev. C. J. Hauesler officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery. WSJ 1/28/1932
