John David "John Boy" Charles, 63, of Goshen, died at his home early Saturday morning, December 9, 2006, after a four month illness with emphysema.

He was born to Garland and Jane (May) Charles, on November 23, 1943 in Pikeville, Kentucky.
He married Ruby Chupp on November 27, 1964, in Clintwood, Virginia. She survives.

A resident of Goshen since 1960, Mr. Charles retired from Dutchman Industries in 2002
and from the Goshen News in 2004. He had also worked for Commodore Homes.

He attended the Benton Free Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing
and sitting on the porch.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Vickie Collins of Goshen
and Robin (Kevin) Cox of New Paris, Indiana; one son, Paul (Fawn) Charles of Etna Green, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Ed (Reable) Charles of Akron, Ohio, Alston (Laura) Charles of Crooksville, Ohio, Lester (Kelsie) Charles and Bobby Gene (Sara) Charles, both of Pikeville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, James Ryan Hunter; a granddaughter,
Sara Nichole Hunter; and four brothers, Arnold Thomas, Hassel, Reford
and George "Red" Jr. Charles.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 11, at the funeral home.

A 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006, service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Lenny Krebs of the Benton Free Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
