Obituary of Grant Marshall
Funeral services for Grant Marshall were held Monday at the Ord Christian Church. Mr. Marshall, 86, died Sept. 22 at Valley County Hospital. He had been in poor health the past four years.
Pastor J.H. Schroeder officiated at the 2 pm services and interment was in Ord City Cemetery with the Ord Memorial Chapel, in charge. Mrs. Marlys Schroeder sang 'Nearer My God to Thee' and 'The Old Rugged Cross' accompanied by organist Mrs. Paul Wray. Pallbearers were John Iwanski, Elliott Clement, Harry Clement, Oscar Larsen, Rollin Dye, Elwood Rassette, John Wozab and Paul Wray.
David Grant Marshall, son of Henry and Pheobe Altman Marshall was born Dec. 4, 1885 in Garfield county and lived in that community during his early life. On Nov. 18 [sic], 1911 he and Ettie A Backus were married at Burwell and after marriage engaged in farming in the Haskell Creek community. With the exception of a few years in Canada and South Dakota, Mr. Marshall had always lived in Nebraska and in 1937 the family moved to Ord where he worked as a carpenter. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1971.
Surviving are his widow of Ord, four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Strickert and Mrs. Ruth Moore both of Scott City, Kan., Mrs. Margaret Scott, North Loup, Mrs. Lucille Southworth, Holdrege; seven sons, Walter of Council Bluffs, Ia., Fred of Ainsworth, Clifford, Grand Island, Vernon, North Platte, Lester, Columbus, Elmer, Ord and George, Deer Park, Wash. Also 32 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one sister Mrs. Ada Stanton, Fifty-six, Ark. His parents, one brother Charles and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
