Mary Evelyn Hayes, 93, of Bryan passed away Friday, February 10th, 2006 at St. Joseph Manor in Bryan. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. February 13th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur.
She was born March 29, 1912 in Port Arthur, Texas to Mary B. and S.I. Dunn.
She attended Port Arthur High School and Texas State College for Women where she received her Bachelor and Masters Degrees.
She was a teacher for 38 years in the Port Arthur School System and an active member in St. George Episcopal Church. She moved to Bryan in 1992 after her husband's death. She has remained a firm supporter of Lamar University, Port Arthur; Port Arthur Museum, Texas Women's University, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas by creating endowed scholarships.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hayes of Port Arthur. She is survived by a step-daughter, Janie Horne of Beaumont and a cousin, William B. Roman, Jr. of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
