Michael Harry "Mike" Hawkins, 71, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at his home in Syracuse.

He was born April 29, 1939, in Sterling, to Lawrence Harry and Eva Lee Hines Hawkins.
In 1985, Mr. Hawkins began Mike Hawkins Co., which specialized in designing, permitting and constructing livestock facilities and dairies, a business that later joined with Terracon, where he became the director of livestock services. He retired in January 2009. He was a veteran of the National Guard and the U.S. Army.

On Aug. 6, 1971, he married Jo Dean Helfrich in Syracuse. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Parke Hawkins of Syracuse; a daughter, Jory Kate Haslett of Berthoud, Colo.; a sister, Phyliss Windle of Payson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral was at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Syracuse. Burial was at Syracuse Cemetery.
