Enlisted on September 1, 1862 in the 45th North Carolina Infantry, Company F. Wounded on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. POW on July 4, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Hospitalized on July 20, 1863 at David's Island, New York Harbor. Exchanged on September 8, 1863 at City Point, Virginia. Returned to duty January 30, 1864. Wounded on July 12, 1864 at Washington DC and captured by the enemy. Hospitalized on July 15, 1864 at Washington DC. Confined on October 1, 1864 to Old Capitol Prison, Washington DC. Transferred on October 24, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of disease as a POW.
