He was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Wilson, Okla. He was a gas plant operator. He was also in the U.S. Army, a Mason, and retired from Chevron in 1986.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Harkey Funeral Home/Cooper Chapel with Brother Eddie Whitefield officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Iraan. Services are under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home of Kermit.

Survivors include his son, Eddie "Bill" Whitefield and wife Shelia of Kermit; a daughter, Margaret Lesch and husband Joel of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Royce Whitefield of Midland; three sisters, Bessie Schenk of San Angelo, Jean Gray of Artesia, N.M., and Gwen Ramsey of Iraan; seven grandchildren, Brigette Esquibel, Stacey Borders, Josh Whitefield, Laura Whitefield, Aaron Lesch, Seth Lesch, and Caleb Lesch; 10 great-grandchildren, and a large loving family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Whitefield; a daughter, Kathey Whitefield; a brother, Carlos Bethel Whitefield Jr.; and three sisters, Jerry Shook, Sue Myers, and Joyce McMillan.
