Heart Attack Takes Banker
Paul S. Dick, chairman of the board of the United States National bank and a veteran of nearly 50 years of banking in Portland, died at 3 A. M. Wednesday at Providence hospital of a heart attack. he was 67 years of age.
Dick had been president of the United States National bank from 1931 until his recent promotion to chairman on March 30 of this year, and it was during his administration as president that the bank he headed saw some of its greatest growth and expansion.
He was also actively identified with public affairs having to do with the development of Portland. He was a member of the Portland area postwar development committee and a member and past chairman of the industries committee of the Portland Chamber of Commerce. He was chairman of the local advisory committee of the Reconstuction Finance corporation and was also serving as a member of the American Bankers' association and on the board of the Portland branch of the federal reserve bank of San Francisco.
Widow, Children Survive
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma T. Dick, whom he married in August, 1903, and three sons, Harvey F., Philip V. and Robert L. Dick. Philip is a major in the army.
E. C. Sammons, who succeeded Dick as president of the United States National March 30, paid a high tribute to Dick's stature as a banker and to his influence for good in the community and state.
Rev. Ralph Walker from the White Temple will officate at funeral services being held at Finley & Son chapel at 2:30 P. M. Saturday. Private commitment will follow in the Portland crematorium. (The Oregonian, 10 May 1945)
