Mary Wanda Mitchell was born January 17, 1933, in Dodsonville, TX, to the home of Wilma Lee and A. C. Trainer and died August 29, 2010, in Clovis, NM. Her family moved from Dimmitt, TX, to the Floyd community when she was a young girl. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1951, and on May 12, 1951 in Portales, she was married to Joe Mitchell. The couple made their home on a farm in Floyd for many years. Mrs. Mitchell was a devoted wife and mother, and a very active farm wife. She and several other ladies from the community spent time together each week doing oil painting, ceramics, and various other craft projects. Mrs. Mitchell was an accomplished photographer, and even did some photos for magazines. Another of her talents was sewing and quilting. Many of her quilts were very creative, and she had finished all but one quilt for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by Joe Mitchell, her husband of more than 59 years of Portales; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy Ray and Exa Kay Mitchell of Clovis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Danny Crist of Garden City, KS, and Connie and Quentin Carnes of Portales; six grandchildren, Joel Green of Lufkin, TX, Quinn Parker of Portales, Amber Cox of Satellite Beach, FL, Collin Carnes of Portales, Ky, Mitchell of Portales, and Macy Mitchell of Clovis; a great-grandson, Jordan Green of Las Cruces, NM; two brothers, Larry (Drucilla) Trainer of Irving, TX, and Gary (Nancy) Trainer of Roswell, NM; a sister, Bobbie (Clyde) Roberts of Portales; several nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, and by three very special puppies, Little Mac, TJ, and Crackers.
