Robert, who resided at South College Avenue, Newark, Delaware, served as a Seaman First Class serving as an armed guard with Company 357 on the S.S. El Almirante, U.S. Navy during World War II.

On a voyage from New York to Liverpool, the Panamanian steamship El Almirante collided with the S.S. Elias Boudinot and sank about 400 miles E of New York.

Robert was "Lost At Sea" in the North Atlantic Ocean.

He had served in the Navy for five months at the time of his death.

Son of William E. Donovan and Anna Elizabeth Webb Donovan.
