When Anne Elizabeth (Eliza) White was born in February 1822 in Claiborne, Mississippi, her father, Nelson White, was 44, and her mother, Martha Barnes, was 28. Anne's sister, Sarah first, married William Henry Harrison McGuffee, on July 19, 1838, in Hinds, Mississippi, the following year Sarah died after giving birth to a son, John Nelson McGuffee, and was buried there in Hinds County, MS. On March 8, 1840, Anne married her sister's widower. She raised Sarah's baby as her own and she and William H. H. Sr. had eight children in 16 years. She died in 1904 in Lawrence County, Mississippi, having lived a long life of 82 years, and was buried in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
