Peter Mattingly, farmer, PO Box Hindsboro, was born February 23, 1838 in Bedford County, Penn. : his father James was born June 5, 1805 in Maryland. The Mattingly family first "came to America with Lord Baltimore," and were pioneers where the city of Baltimore now stands, with the history of which city the name is honorably connected. James' wife was Ann Albreight; they were the parents of fifteen children, fourteen of whom are still living; he died in April 1884; his widow is still living. Subject was reared on a farm and fairly educated. February 6, 1860, he married Elizabeth Donahoe; she died in March 1861, he farmed until 1863, when he sold out, went to Nebraska after two years, and engaged in farming. In 1866, he married Margaret A. Cassady, of Douglas Co. Neb., they had seven children - James P, Henry E., Charles I., Francis J., Anne F., Emma and Mary J. (Note: Actually they had 12 children)
