Son of John Edward Dittman, Sr. and Ida Archer Dittman.

Husband of Emma Troyer Dittman.

John, who resided in Clayton, Delaware, served as a Oiler on the Merchant Marine Ship, M.S. Sunoil during World War II.

John was declared "Missing In Action" when his ship was sunk by ememy gunfire en route from Halifax, Nova Scotia to England. He was awarded the Mariner's Medal.

This record is a "Cenotaph" in his memory.

Delawarean "Hunter Nickles Craddock" from Claymont was also killed on the M.S. Sunoil.
