O.M. "Shorty" and Betsy Long moved to Bailey County in 1922 from Spur, Texas. They farmed in the Longview Community. They had nine children who attended school at Baileyboro and later at Bula, Texas. A brother, Daniel Homer, moved to Bailey County in 1947 and lived here until his death in 1958. Betsy Long died in 1942 and O.M. died in 1950.
Hester Long married Virgil Webb in 1915 and they lived in Needmore until his death in 1955. She moved into Muleshoe where she died in 1961.
Ray Long married Ryle Culbert and they had four children, Winard, Ralph (now deceased), Doris, and Betty Sue. Mr. Culbert died in 1940. Later Ray married Newt Burris who died in 1980. Ray now lives in Springdale, Arkansas.
Tess Long married Howard Jackson and settled in California. They had five children, Dot, Gerald (now deceased), Jackie, Rita, and Jimmy.
Jesse Long married Pat Barnett and they lived in Baileyboro. They had two sons, Kelley and Billy. In the late 1950s they moved to Lampasas where Jessie has remained since Pat's death in 1966.
Lynn Long married Alta Baker and they lived at Needmore until his death in 1954. She later married Hugh Gore, who died in 1987. Alta now lives in Muleshoe.
Dorothy Long married Harry Stephens and moved to California. They have one daughter, Judy. Dorothy now lives in Portland, Oregon.
Homer Long married Nettie Hairgrove in 1937. They lived in Baileyboro until 1941 when they moved to New Mexico. In 1946 they returned to Muleshoe. They have three children; Homer "Butch" Long, Mart, and Agnes. Butch married Winnie Shaw. They live in Lubbock and have one son Chuck. Mart married Darlene Lackey. They had two children, Devin who was born and died in 1978 and Marty, born in 1980 and died in 1987. Their daughter, Agnes Smith, has four children. Kevin married Rhonda King. They live in Muleshoe and have two sons, Steven and Timothy. Ken married Connie Stevens. They live in Muleshoe and have two daughters, Jennifer and Crystal. Karen and husband Keith Shepard have two sons, Jason and Nathan, and also live in Muleshoe. Keith married Mary Ann Cisneros. They live in Midland with their two sons, Bryan and Andrew. Homer died in 1980 and Nettie still lives in Muleshoe.
Wes Long married Billy Billye Bradshaw. They had three children, Sheryl, Eldon, and Tommy. Wes died in 1970 in Friona where they had lived for a number of years.
The youngest of the Long children, Leland (Dutch) married Lois Baker. Theey had three children, Kay, Clinton, and Debbie, who all live in Idaho. Leland died in 1982 at Lake Tawakoni, Texas. (Submitted by Agnes Long Smith)
